Treatment results for many dermatology problems are dramatic. The veterinarians at Animal Dermatology Center of Chicago are gratified to see the improvement after treatment and want you to see these wonderful results, too.
Skye—Allergy and Staph Infection
Skye, a 5-year-old Scottish Deerhound, came to us as with severe symptoms of atopy, a type of allergic skin disease. This allergy is caused by allergens in the environment triggering allergic reactions in the skin and severe itching occurs. Skye’s itching was so intense that sores had developed and become infected. |
After control of the allergy and treatment of infections, the sores have healed and the itching stopped. Skye was able to regrow his hair and lead a comfortable life. |
Elvis—Allergy and Staph Infection
Elvis, a domestic shorthaired cat, first came to see us as a 7-year-old with severe allergies. In cats, allergies often manifest as itching and licking. Sores can then become infected, and the skin condition worsens. |
After treating the infection with the correct type of antibiotics for this condition and then controlling the allergy, the skin has healed and the hair has grown in completely. |
Madison—Allergy and Face Fold Dermatitis
Madison had allergies which resulted in sores developing on the face, most noticeably in the face folds. |
With allergies controlled, the inflammation and sores in the face folds are able to heal and grow back into a normal haircoat |
Cooper—Actinomycosis
Cooper, a 3-year-old Pomeranian, had developed a painful swelling on the side of the face. Special sampling of this revealed that a bacteria called Actinomyces was causing this problem. |
after many months of antibiotic to specifically treat this organism, the swelling is gone and the infection healed. |
Annabelle—TEN
Annabelle had developed a life threatening skin reaction called Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, similar to Stevens-Johnson syndrome. The cause of this type of reaction is undetermined for most patients. |
After intensive treatment, the disease is in remission and the skin can heal. Scarring of the skin will prevent hair from regrowing, but no other lesions remain. |
Lisa—Alopecia X
Lisa, a 10-year-old Sheltie, had developed a hormonal disorder know as Alopecia X, which occurs when there is an abnormality with the adrenal glands. The abnormal hormone levels in the body cause the hairs to stop growing. |
After treatment for this condition with medication to help the adrenal gland alter hormone production, the haircoat has grown in completely. |
Mattie—Allergy and Parasite Disorder
After being adopted as a 1-year-old, Mattie was very itchy and kept constantly licking off her fur and rubbing at her face. She had small scabs and sores all over her body, head and legs. She was diagnosed as having allergies and also a mite disorder called Demodicosis. |
After treatments to clear up the Demodicosis and therapy to control the allergic skin disease, Mattie has regrown her hair and is able to enjoy a much more comfortable life. |
