Conditions Treated by Animal Dermatology Center of Chicago
Most often, the pets we see at ADCC have symptoms that have been treated by their regular veterinarians. Perhaps these treatments aren’t working. If your pet has ongoing skin issues with symptoms such as scratching, biting, chewing, and so on, the causes may be
- Allergic Skin Disease
- Ear and Skin Infections
- Parasitic Infestations
- Hormonal Issues
- Autoimmune Disorders
- Hereditary Problems
- Keratinization Defects
- Skin Cancer
Our approach involves careful testing to help get the right diagnosis. We work methodically to rule out many potential causes so we can find the right remedy for your pet’s condition.
Seasonal and environmental allergies may be reactions to trees, pollen, or grass. Other pets may need diet trials to determine food allergies, and we might utilize a nutritionist to formulate the novel diet. An intradermal test would identify the offending allergens to begin allergen-specific immunotherapy. A majority of pets develop infections secondary to allergies. We will determine if these are bacterial or fungal in origin by completing routine cytology and possibly cultures to determine bacterial resistance.
Getting the right diagnosis and the correct treatment for your pet may take some time, but our goal is always to solve your pet’s dermatology issues and keep him or her comfortable and happy.
